Eligibility: phICA is seeking a visual artist to respond to a repurposed shipping container gallery space sited in the heart of the Downtown Phoenix Arts District on Roosevelt Row. The area is transforming into a bohemian, highly-desirable place to live, work, and enjoy a uniquely Phoenix lifestyle. There is a didactic element to the project in that exhibiting artists, in tandem with the curator, must make decisions as to installation and space design with regard to showing art work to large crowds and in a non-conventional venue. The dimensions of each container are approximately 18 feet deep x 7.5 feet wide x 8 feet high (5.49 x 2.29 x 2.44 meters). View previous phICA Onloaded exhibits online: http://phica.org/projects

The submissions which will resonate most with the jurors are ones that reflect critical thinking and creative problem solving skills regarding a response to installing an exhibition in a repurposed shipping container gallery. Also, art work that reflects being idea driven and shows the artist’s knowledge of the technical and contextual sides of art practice.
