Exhibition Curator Text
David Rosado (b. 1976, Évora, Portugal) is a mixed media artist who lives and works in Lisbon. With over 20 years of exhibition credentials, David Rosado first began to display work in 1996 at the Palacio D. Manuel Évora. In 2004 he completed a degree in Fine Art at the University of Évora, with an emphasis on mixed media and painting. Rosado’s work is represented by numerous public and private collections.
David Rosado achieves renewal by systematically adopting new methods of creativity through a wide variety of materials and techniques, allowing himself to work without restriction. He works layer by layer, forgoing the need for a preparatory sketch.
Launching straight into the canvas allows Rosado to freely develop ideas. Within his work he orders chaos while striving to maintain harmony and balance.
While components of Rosado’s work reference contemporary politics and consumer culture, he is not inspired by pop art. In truth, his work aims to recontextualize prevalent images in the immediate and virtual world via elements of cynicism and humor. David Rosado derives further inspiration from the informational excess existing between these worlds and people, alluding to a kind of social blockade hindering our paths of interpersonal communication.
