Scottsdale League for the Arts
We are pleased to announce that we have recently received notification from Scottsdale League for the Arts that we have been awarded a grant, our first from this long-time funder of arts and culture projects and the presenting organization for the renowned annual Scottsdale Culinary Festival. This grant will also support phICA’s Onloaded 2 project, October, 2014 – April, 2015.

We are thrilled to announce that we have received notification that phICA has been awarded a Community Investment Grant (Level 1) from the Arizona Commission on the Arts in the 2015 grant cycle, our second from the state agency. The Arts Commission receives its funding from the National Endowment for the Arts and the State of Arizona. The grant will support phICA’s Onloaded 2 project, October, 2014 – April, 2015.

We are thrilled to announce that we have just received notification that phICA has been awarded a Community Investment Grant (Level 1) from the Arizona Commission on the Arts in the 2014 grant cycle, our first from the state agency. The amount was more than double what it would have been because of the one-time allocation of additional funds for FY2014 grant-making in the amount of $1 million from the Arizona State Legislature announced in June, 2013. The Arts Commission receives its funding from the National Endowment for the Arts and the State of Arizona. The grant will support a phICA project in 4th quarter of 2013/early 2014 which will be announced later this fall.

We are thrilled to announce the generous support by Macy’s of phICA’s exhibition projects especially as they relate to “culture, collaboration and innovation with Brazil.” We received the announcement with the following encouragement, “we extend our best wishes for your continued success. Sue Chenoweth: Real and Applied will open at Modified Arts
The solo exhibition, Sue Chenoweth: Real and Applied will open at Modified Arts, Phoenix, on November 16 (Third Friday) and will run through December 31st, 2012. A small concurrent exhibition curated by Ted G. Decker and Vicki Stouffer will showcase art made by artists who have attended artist’s residencies. phICA will present impactful educational programming that encourages artists to include artist residencies as one of the strategies in their professional practice.
Ted Decker connects Rio de Janeiro and Phoenix mayors!
Rio de Janeiro visual artist and musician Edgar Duvivier made and posted a video of Ted Decker guiding him through the recent exhibitions in Rio de Janeiro.
In an impromptu manner, Decker, speaking in Portuguese (people who speak Portuguese claim to understand what he said!), discussed phICA’s exhibit Sue Chenoweth: Real and Applied and a concurrent exhibition he co-curated titled O espaço entre (The Space Between) which included 7 artists based in Phoenix in their first international exhibition.

phICA Artist Advocacy Project (PAAP)
Launched in July, 2012, phICA’s information take-away cards also serve as an advocacy project for artists and innovative community connections with contemporary art. Various individuals and businesses provide sponsorship support to cover the printing of 500 cards by each artist. The size of the cards is 2.25 x 8.25 inches, approximately the size of a bookmark. PAAP cards are distributed in a grassroots manner in Phoenix, in Brazil, and in other cities and countries where artists and those connected with phICA travel or live.
